The study aims at evaluating social studies cycle two teachers' of the teaching skills in basic education in comparison with those in general education, Questions of the Study: . To what extent do basic education teachers /practice social studies teaching skills? Y. To what extent do cycle two basic education teachers differ from those in general education in / practicing the social studies teaching skills? . What are the weaknesses and strengths the teaching skills in basic education and general education? The data was collected by means of an observation checklist consisting of {. items categorized into five dimensions Warm up, presentation, teaching aids, motivation and evaluation. Once the instrument was checked for validity and reliability, it was distributed to a sample of Y7 male and teachers assigned randomly from cycle two of basic education classes and their equivalent levels in general education in the interior region (an average of { visits to each subject). Findings of the Study: 1. The teachers' performance level in the teaching skills included in the checklist is low. Y No significant differences between basic education teachers and the general education teachers (at ..level) All but four dimensions are in favor of basic education teachers 7. The general education teachers demonstrate poor performance (below the accepted level of educational standards) in % of the included skills.
