A Test consists of (31) multiple choice items was developed to achieve the aims of this study. Validity using Panel of judges was used, and Reliability using Cronbach -Alpha for internal consistency was also used (0.80), these results were enough to measure the aims of the study.
The sample of study consists of 582 students (300 male and 282 female) who were chosen randomly from the public schools in the academic year 2001/2002. Means, t-test and ANOVA were used to answer the questions of the study The results revealed that:
- Students performance for the test is below the stated educational accepted criterion (60%). - There is no significant differences between students acquisition on science process skills at (a =0.05) with respect to their gender. There were statistical significant differences between students acquisition on science process skills at (a =0.05) with respect to their classes and achievement.
There were no statistical significant differences at (a =0.05) for the interaction between gender and achievement; gender and class ;class and achievement; and interaction between class, gender and achievement.
In the light of the results of this study some recommendations were made such as:- emphasis on new methods of teaching, teaching should be student oriented, assessment should concentrate on measuring students performance in science process skills, curriculum should be oriented towards science process skills.
