This study aimed to explore the relationship between emotional intelligence and the widespread of the irrational ideas among the workers in the religious jobs in the Sultanate of Oman in the light of some variables (gender, degree, years of service, job, and age). The study sample consisted of 215 male and female employees working in the Ministry of Awqaf and religious affairs, where the number of males is 116 and the number of females is 99. In order to arrive at the intended outcome, this study used Wakeman measure of emotional intelligence (2006), and irrational ideas measure of Rihani (1985). The results of the study have shown that emotional intelligence among the members of the sample is moderate and is heading to high where the overall average reached (24.16) with a standard deviation of (5.55). the results have also shown that the percentage of irrational ideas among the members of the study sample is varying and tend to rise; ranging between (77.8%) at its highest which is for idea (9), namely, ( a feeling of helplessness) and (16%) at its lowest which is for idea (1), namely, ( a request for a approval).
The results of the independent Sampies T-test revealed that there are no statistically significant differences, at the level of significance (0.05), for the emotional intelligence as a whole that can be attributed to the variables of gender, degree, years of service, job or age. As well as for the irrational ideas regarding the variable of gender except for the presence of statistically significant differences only for the idea (6), namely, (excessive anxiety). The differences were significant at a level of (0.45) and they were in favor of females with an average of (7.10).
As for the variable of a degree, the results of the (One – Way ANOVA) test indicated that there are no significant differences in the irrational ideas as a whole except for the idea (4) between the two degrees of a general diploma and a university degree which was in favor of the general diploma, and for idea (10) between the same two categories which was in favor of the university degree this time.
Regarding the variable (years of service), the results of the (One – Way ANOVA) test indicated that there are statistically significant differences, at the level of significance (0.05), for the total of irrational ideas between the two categories: from (5-10 years and 11-15 years) and the category (more than 15 years), in favor of the two categories from (5-10 years and 11-15 years).
There are also significant differences for the idea (1), a (request for approval), between the two categories (less than 5 years and more than 15 years), in favor of the category (less than 5 years). As well as significant differences for the idea (6), (excessive anxiety) between the two categories (5-10 years and 11-15 years) and the category (more than 15 years) in favor of the two categories (5-10 years and 11-15 years). There are also significant differences for the idea (8),(reliability or dependency) between the two categories (5-10 years and 11-15 years) and the category (more than 15 years) in favor of the two categories (5-10 years and 11-15 years).
As for the variable (job), there are no significant differences that can be attributed to job variable as a whole and the irrational ideas but there are statistically significant differences, at the level of significance (0.05), between the irrational ideas of the idea (4), (expecting calamities and disasters) between the two categories (the counselor and the teacher of Koran) in favor of the
teacher of holy Koran, and the idea (8), namely, (reliability or dependency) in favor of the teacher of holy Koran as well.
Regarding the variable (age), there are only statistically significant differences, at the level of significance (0.05), between the irrational ideas for the idea (1), a (request for approval) between the two categories (from 25-35 years) and (more than 35 years) in favor of the category (from 25-35 years), while there are no statistically significant differences that can be attributed to the variable of age as a whole and the irrational ideas.
About the relationship between emotional intelligence and irrational ideas, the study found that there is a positive relationship between emotional intelligence and irrational ideas. That is, as the emotional intelligence increases, the irrational ideas increase as well and vice versa with the exception of idea (1), a (request for approval) where the relationship is a negative inverse relationship. The results were discussed and some recommendations were suggested.
