This study aimed to investigate the administrative employees' view of the level of work stress and the occupational mobility and the relation between them in the General directorates of Education in Sultanate of Oman. The study used the descriptive method. A questionnaire was designed to collect the necessary data. The questionnaire consisted of two fields; one of them was work stress consisting of 37 statements distributed onto 7 axes which are role conflict, role ambiguity, job stress, professional growth opportunities, relationships at work, individual sources and the physical environment; the second was occupational mobility consisting of 25 statements distributed onto 4 axes which are the social, cultural, economic and the personal factors. After making sure of their validity and reliability, they were applied on 187 directors and heads of departments in the academic year 2012/2013.
The major findings of this study are as follows:
The level of work stress in the General Directorates of Education in the Sultanate of Oman was medium. Also, the level of the occupational mobility in the General Directorates of Education in the Sultanate of Oman was medium. There were no statistically significant differences at the level of significance (.05≥a) in the sources of the stress of work attributed to variables of the current job or qualification. In addition there were statistically significant differences at the level of significance (.05≥a) sources of the stress of work attributed to the experience years for the sake of the few experience years in the axis of role ambiguity. Furthermore, there were statistically significant differences at the level of significance (.05≥a) in the occupational mobility attributed to the social type in the cultural, economic and personal factors for the sake of the females. Additionally, there was a positive and medium relation in the sources of work stress and occupational mobility of Administrators in the General Directorate of Education in the Sultanate of Oman.
The most important recommendations that the study gave were:
Reviewing the salaries of the directors and heads of departments to suit the stress of their jobs.
Giving work nature bonuses commensurate with their current jobs and consistent with their current job descriptions.
The employee should have physical and moral advantages that make him or herfeels more job satisfaction and stability.
This kind of jobs - Director and Head of Department- should be competitive to the applicants and there should be physical advantages for these jobs to encourage the
