There is no doubt that good Reading comprehension comes hand in hand with understanding, that is because the main aim of reading is to understand the reading material you have in hand. So, understanding reading is considered a key element for the different reading skills, It is rather the highest goal in reading.
The reading comprehension concept has received the attention of many researchers and educators in the field of teaching Arabic to non-Arabic speakers. The understanding and skills included are among the most important terms that have been closely related to reading because it has always been an educational requirement and one of its requirements and above all a goal of its objectives.
The researcher depended in his study on the descriptive analytical method which is
so appropriate to the nature of his study. The study sample consisted of all 30 members of the original education community, including 17 male teachers and 13 female teachers in the institutions of teaching Arabic language to non-native speakers, in each of the following(sultan Qaboos University, Modern studies Center, The Arabic experience institute and N oor Majan institute) in Oman. And in order to achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher designed a list of necessary reading comprehension skills. According to this list, a note card was prepared which included (32) reading comprehension skills which had Five axes that include skills reading understanding, (literal , deductive, critical, appreciating and creativity) to measure skill functioning , The study revealed the following results:
- The level of teachers' use of reading comprehension skills in the teaching of Arabic to non-native speakers was low, according to skills reading comprehension as a whole.
- The level of teachers' use of reading comprehension skills at skill literal understanding
occurred within the category of (medium).
- The level of teachers' use of reading comprehension skills in skill critical understanding occurred within the category of (medium).
The level of teachers' employment of reading comprehension skills at skill deductive understanding occurred within the category of (low grade).
- The level of teachers' employment of reading comprehension skills in skill tasting and
understanding within the category of (low grade).
- The level of teachers' employment of reading comprehension skills at skill creative understanding occurred within the category of (at a very low grade). The study recommended the following:
- The need for the attention of teachers of Arabic language to non-native speakers to use reading comprehension skills in the course of their reading lessons.
- To Include the reading comprehension skills in the curricula of teaching in their goals concerning Arabic language and teaching them to non Arabic-speakers,
