The aim of this study was to determine the degree of practicing strategies of
managing organizational conflict by the department heads from the perspectives of the
faculty members at Sultan Qaboos University, to reveal the extent of the difference in the
evaluation of these practices according to some demographic variables of the faculty
members (gender, rank, years of experience, nationality, college, department head gender),
and come up with proposals to enhance the practice of conflict management strategies by
department heads. To achieve the objectives of this study; the researcher used the
questionnaire of the Organizational Conflict Management Strategies Scale ROCI-II,
consisting of 28 items, divided into five strategies, and the sample of the study was 200
faculty members, chosen as per the method available from the study population consisting
of 908 members, and the results of the study indicated:
The degree to which academic department heads practice organizational conflict
management strategies for the dimensions as a whole came with a moderate level of
practice. The results came in descending sequential, as follows: the highest was a
compromising strategy, followed by avoidance, then integration, followed by dominating,
and finally obliging, and there were no statistically significant differences at the
significance level (α =0.05). The variables (gender, academic rank, nationality, college
type) are attributed to the faculty member. At the same time, there are statistically
significant differences at the significance level (α = 0.05) attributed to the variable of years
of experience in the dimensions of the strategies: (Dominating, compromise, obliging,
integration), and the scale as a whole. By using the LSD comparisons, it was found that the
differences came in favor of the study sample based on their experiences (less than 5 years).
There are no statistically significant differences at the significance level (α = 0.05) for the
gender variant of the department head in the (clearance) strategy dimension. In comparison,
there were statistically significant differences in the remaining dimensions of the strategies
for the benefit of males. The study concluded with a number of recommendations, most
notably; the need to organize training courses for department heads in leadership, the
strategies of dealing with others, emotional intelligence, and conflict management
strategies.

هدَفَت هذه الدراسة إلى تحديد درجة ممارسة رؤساء الأقسام الأكاديمية لاستراتجيات إدارة الِّصراع التنظيمي من وجهة نظر أعضاء الهيئة التدريسية في جامعة السلطان قابوس، والكشف عن مدى اختلال تقدير هذه الممارسات باختلال بعض المتغيرات االديمغرافية لدى أعضاء الهيئة الأكاديمية (الجنس والرتبة الأكاديمية وسنوات الخبرة، والجنسية وتخصص الكلية وجنس رئيس القسم) والتوصل إلى مقترحات لتعزيز ممارسة رؤساء الاقسام الأكاديمية لاسترتيجيات إدارة الصراع .
