English abstract
The Bab al-Mandab strait is considered one of the most important of the
international waterways, due to:
First, the importance of the water body to which it belongs, the Red Sea.
Second, The importance of the strait's distinct geographical location.
Third, its control over the southern entrance to the Red Sea.
fourth, its formation of the territorial waters of the Asian and African
countries (Yemen, Djibouti and Eritrea) and its being the shortest route
between the oil countries in the East and Europe, as well as for the transport
of goods from East Asia. All these factors made it a wide area within the
strategic priorities of the major powers and their colonial ambitions since
the sixteenth century until the present time.
The international community must reduce tension and the race for
influence; through reduce the military presence that will preserve the
freedom of passage for commercial ships. And for the security of the strait,
This can be achieved by supporting the efforts of the governments around
the strait forstrengthening its sovereign institutions to control all their lands.
In a way that guarantees the region's security and stability and ensures the
safety and security of the Bab al-Mandab Strait and all areas threatening
international routes. The international community must also provide
financial support to these countries to combat poverty and unemployment
that drive extremism and terrorism.
Instead of racing over control of this strait that concerns the whole world,
the support of these countries to keep their sovereignty will ease the global
conflict over the strait. Any conflict of interest will spell disaster. It is hard
to imagine the success of any such intervention or a parallel diplomatic
endeavor without Washington taking the lead.
The necessity of concluding agreements between the countries that border
the strait to ensure the safety of maritime navigation and the protection of
the interests and sovereignty of these countries, and for these countries to
play their role in protecting their lands and territorial waters.
