To discover whether digital flashcards are a suitable and effective way of
promoting vocabulary learning among Omani GFP students, the study investigated
the effects of digital flashcard use on independent vocabulary learning and student
perceptions of digital flashcard use, and whether designing flashcards using
intralingual or interlingual strategies had any effect on learning. It was a quasi experimental study that employed mixed methods of research, gathering quantitative
data using a pretest/posttest design and gathering qualitative data through interviews
over a seven-week period. The findings of the study revealed that having Anki as a
resource did not have a significant impact on vocabulary learning. However, despite
their low usage, participants' opinion of Anki as a learning tool were largely
positive.
