This article about the importance of the efficient use of resources, especially in developing countries that struggle to meet the level of health spending recommended by the World Health Organization. 5 percent of their gross domestic product (GDP). The authors argue that Malaysia may serve as a model health system in using public funds to achieve health outcomes. However, our ongoing analysis suggests that Oman might be a better example. The growth in government health spending as a share of GDP is expected to be the same for Malaysia and Oman in 2015 However, female life expectancy at birth in Oman is seventysix years and is projected to reach eighty years by 2030 —two years more than in Malaysia. 3 Oman also outperforms Estonia and the Slovak Republic, its peers in terms of per capita income, with slightly longer life expectancy at lower government and total health spending, respectively.
