This study has three aims: First, identifying the requirements of applying institutional governance in the private schools in Oman; finding significant differences in these requirements attributed to gender, nationality, academic qualification, and years of management experience variables; and attempting to suggest some measures to apply the institutional governance in these schools. In order to achieve the study's aims, the researcher used a questionnaire that was distributed to a sample of respondents from private schools in the Sultanate of Oman. The questionnaire consisted of 35 items distributes into four domains- regulatory requirements, legal requirements, professional requirements, and value requirements. The data were gathered from the study's sample of 143 school principals working in private schools in different regions. After data analysis using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), the study revealed the following results: • The study sample's estimates on the requirements of applying institutional governance in the private schools in Oman were high. There were statistically significant differences in the study sample's estimates of the requirements in general due to the gender variable, in favor of males. The differences in the requirements in general and in the four domains were due to the academic qualification variable, in favor of the bachelor degree holders. . There are no statistically significant differences in the study sample's estimates of the requirements in general, and in the four domains due to the nationality and years of management experience variables. The researcher proposed some suggested measures, including modifying the organizational structure of the private schools, introducing a Board of Trustees for each school, determining the school's vision and mission based on the participation of beneficiaries, activating means of communication between the school, its staff and beneficiaries. Some related studies were also recommended.
