A series of novel banana-shaped molecules containing ester and amide linkages are efficiently synthesized in a convergent fashion. The synthetic features involve a four step sequence from the resorcinol angle determinant core that serves as a scaffold for the attachment of the two mesogenic units. Each mesogen is constructed via acylation of the rigid core moieties. The lower moiety is attached to the pendent tail via alkylation of a phenolic OH group. The four banana-shaped molecules synthesized vary in the length of the pendent tails of which three contain non branched alkyl chains, butyl, hexyl and octyl. The forth comprises a branched octyl chain. The molecules are characterized by NMR and HRM spectra. Their physical are properties such as the melting points and the ferroelectric behavior are measured in addition to the texture.
