In 1973 the Harvard Archaeological Survey was first invited to visit Oman. Whatever success was achieved in that first season was in no small way due to the late Mr. Andrew Williamson, who took part as one of the original members of the Survey. As leader of both seasons of the Survey I would like to pay tribute to Andrew Williamson’s archaeological skill and knowledge as well as his personal ability in the ordinary affairs of survey life. Without reference to personal sentiments his death is a very great loss to the archaeology of Oman and the Antiquities Department of the Sultanate.
