English abstract
Women can play a significant role in society if they have the encouragement and support from the government, their family and society. Before 1970, women's role in Oman was limited to taking care of the house, children and helping their husbands. Since the Late Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimur came to power in 1970, this changed. One of his interests and priorities was the Omani woman's status in the country. He was always confirming that women are the partners of men in all forums and responsibilities, and this has been seen in different fields and places. For example, we now see Omani women as ministers, parliamentarians, ambassadors, university professors, doctors, engineers, lawyers, traders, teachers, and active in other public and private areas. This thesis discusses the role of his Majesty Sultan Qaboos and the government in the development of Omani women's status in society. It also aims to clarify the importance of Omani women in different fields such as in helping in the construction of and contributing to the community; the political role of women like voting rights and holding vital positions in the country. In addition, the thesis discusses whether this role of his Majesty Sultan Qaboos of empowering Omani women has been completely applied in society. The thesis argues that his Majesty and the government had a progressive outlook for women and their important role in the country. This can be proved by the current situation of the vital contribution of Omani women in different areas in the country. They play a dynamic role in developing society hand in hand with men. This role is expected to continue in the future because of his Majesty Sultan Qaboos's policies and the government making efforts to improve women's status in the society and providing them with awareness and experience through different organizations. However, there are some obstacles and challenges that prevent Omani women in completely participating in social, economic, and political issues.
