management in urban planning (3) Explore change management literature (4) Identify
the best practices globally (5) Recommend improvements to achieve targets. The
research questions asked were: (a) what is an outline of the brief history of Nizwa
City? (b) What is the current status of change management in urban planning? (c)
What does change management literature say? (d) What are the urban planning best
practices globally? (e) What recommendations should be made to achieve
improvements? All that done by using qualitative and quantitative research methods.
A general funding of this study is lack of knowledge of 4th industrial revolution, lack
of staff exchanges, lack of finance, lack of skills, shortage of engineers, poor
investment inflows, slow modernization and lack of adequate infrastructure. The
researcher found there are many obstacles to desired destiny, this relating to laws,
society, the different environments in which they live and financial resources, which
constitute a major obstacle to development. Recommendations given were that Nizwa
City develops the competence of local engineers and specialists, increase the number
of professional technical staff, share experiences, create a huge database, increase
budget, cooperate with relevant university departments, proactive planning is required
for industrial, commercial and residential areas and leave sufficient areas for future
development. It is quite clear that Nizwa City still has a long way to catch up with the
best in the world. Further research is recommended to provide to better understand
world class urban planning strategy.
