English abstract
The aim of the study was to identify the relationship between the mental image of the body and the mental health of a sample of women practicing and non practices for sport in clubs in Al-Dhahirah Governorate, in order to identify the role of exercise in improving the psychological fitness of a sample of women who exercise for various reasons, In improving the image of the body compared to non practices. The sample was (208) women. Of these, (100) women were selected from the practice of sports and )108( women who did not exercise at all were randomly selected. The researcher used the body image scale of Dasouki (2004) and the mental health index of Wight & Weir (1983, Ware & Veit). The results showed a positive correlative relationship between body image and mental health in general. The study also showed differences in the level of body image and mental health in the study sample according to the variable of practice. The difference in favor of women was the practice of sport. It was found that women practicing sport are healthier and less narrow than Non-women sports practices. While there were no differences in the age variable except after psychological distress, which showed differences in favor of the age group (20-30) in favor of the category of sports practices. In the variable number of boys (4-7). The differences in the social status variable of the category of sports practices and non-sports practices did not appear. The study concluded that the body image accounts for (76%) of the variation in the mental health of women.
