English abstract
The study attempted to evaluate the Social Studies' curricula in Cycle Two of the Basic Education based on the criteria for the curriculum . The study was conducted on a sample of (121) teachers (58 male /63 female) of Social Studies in the Cycle Two of Basic Education schools at Al Batinah South Educational Region. The researcher used a questionnaire to collect the data required for the study. The questionnaire consisted of 83 items dealing with the following issues : aims ; ontent ; methods of teaching and learning ; related learning activities ; teaching media ; and assessment . The stability of the instrument was verified using Alpha Cronbach with a value of 91.The study addressed the two following questions:
1. To what extent do the Social Studies curricula in Cycle Two of Basic Education in Oman meet the curriculum criteria?
2. Does the degree of meeting the curriculum criteria by the Social
Studies curricula in Cycle Two of Basic Education differ according to the major (geography-history(?
After finding out the means, the standard deviations, and the t- test for two groups of teachers representing Geography teachers and History teachers separately, the study reached the following conclusions:
1. The curriculum criteria were all met when preparing the Social Studies school text books for the phase of Cycle Two of Basic Education.
2. No differences of a statistical significance were found in any of these following aspects examined by the study : namely aims , content, assessment , media, and the total .
3. Differences of a statistical value were found between the teachers of history and geography in the areas of teaching methods and related learning activities particularly at (a=.05).
Based on the findings of this study, the researcher provides a group of suggestions and recommendations
