English abstract
This study aimed to identify the effectiveness of a cognitive behavioral training program in reducing psychological stress and improve the adjustment level of mothers of students of the Ministry of Education mental merger program in the Sultanate of Oman. The importance of the study to highlight the importance of counseling for families of students with special needs in the Sultanate of Oman.
The study sample was (30) mothers investigated by the two tools of the study during the first semester (2015), where they measured by psychological pressure gauge and psychological adaptation gauge as a trail test, then a random sample of mothers who received high marks on the psychological pressures and low degrees in the psychological adaptation was selected, and divided into two groups: (experimental and control group), where the experimental group consisting of (15) had the training program, consisting of 10 sessions over two months, at a rate of two training sessions a week for 90 minutes, while the control group have not been subject to any training program.
The study focused on knowing the impact of cognitive behavioral program to reduce the psychological stress and raise the adaptation level as dependent variables. To achieve this goal cognitive behavioral program, the measure of psychological pressure and the measure of psychological adaptation for mothers has been build and applied. To examine hypotheses of the study Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) has been used. The results indicated that there is a difference statistically significant at the level of (0.05<a), to reduce the psychological stress and raise the adaptation among the mothers for the experimental group and the result showed that the program was effective in reducing psychological stress among mothers and raise the adaptation.
The results also showed there is no differences based on the psychological pressure gauge between the program period of the follow-up was conducted after two weeks from the study.
In light of the findings of this study, the researcher recommends further studies that aim to also screen the effectiveness of cognitive behavioral programs to mothers with children having other categories of disabilities.
