English abstract
The study aimed at identifying the level of the population awareness of students, at the Post- basic education in Oman, In the light of population Issues that are included in social studies textbooks for grades (5-11), and to test if there are any statistical significant differences between the students in their population awareness level due to sex, and environment variables. To collect data the researcher builds a scale to measure population awareness in three fields: The first one, is the population knowledge field and it is measured by a test, the second field, the population positions measured by a scale, and the last field, the population attitudes measured by a scale.
The three fields contain these main sections:" Demographic situation and population dynamics, population and society and family life, population and development, population and health, population and environment. After making sure of the validity and reliability of study instruments, it was applied on the study sample which was about (480) male & female students, (7%) of the student population, they are drown of four 4 areas in south batinah region: Barka, and Mosna,a area, and Al-Rastaq, and Wadi Al-Moawel. The maine results of the study were as follows:
- the students population awareness was acceptable in the population knowledge and population positions fields. But population attitudes were neutral to subjects. - There were statistically significant differences on the level of the (0.05 > a) in the population awareness for the students at post- basic education attributable to the sex variable in the favor of females. - There were no statistically significant differences at the level of the (0.05 >a) in the population awareness for the students at post-basic education, attributable to the environment variable (The coast & The interior). -There was a positive correlation function at the level of statistical significance (0.01 >a) but it is weak between the student knowledge and their population positions. - There was a positive correlation function at the level of statistical significance (0.01 > a) but it is weak between the student knowledge and their population attitudes. - There was no statistical correlation function between the student attitudes and their population positions.
The study results recommended that it is necessary to develop the population awareness among the students by displaying all the issues and concepts that have any relationship with the(population society and family life, population & development, emigration and their effects) in the various textbooks and providing them with obvious definitions, and to work with the students by making workshops and activities inside and outside the classes and schools to promote the population awareness and to activate population enlightenment programs to raise the level of population awareness of students. Also to guide the senior teachers and supervisors to the promotion of information and population trends and attitudes of students to reach with them to the hopeful level of population awareness.
