English abstract
This study aims to understand the effectiveness of using interactive whiteboards on the immediate performance and retention of learnings of Islamic Education among grade seven female students in the Sultanate of Oman. To achieve this aim, the researcher designed a teaching manual of the second semester Islamic Education lessons of grade seven using the interactive whiteboard software (ActivInspire) along with designing a performance test. The teaching manual and the test were evaluated by specialized referees to check their validity. The reliability of the test is calculated with Cronbach's alpha and it scored (0,85).
The study sample consisted of 54 students, which were divided into two groups: experimental and control groups. The experimental group consisted of (27) students, who were taught using the interactive whiteboard. The control group consisting of (27) students was taught the same material using the conventional whiteboard. Both groups went through the same performance test after the classes, and the test was repeated after 12 days. The results revealed a difference of statistical significance between the score averages of the two groups in the immediate and post-tests. This finding is in favor of the experimental group and is attributed to the use of the interactive whiteboard.
Based on this finding, the researcher recommends the active use of interactive whitebeards in schools, and further recommends that teachers are made aware of the significance of modern technologies in improving the educational process.
