English abstract
This study aimed to investigate the impact of the case study strategy on science achievement of sixth grade students and their attitude towards environmental issues. The study consisted of (63) students from sixth grade in one of South Al Batinah governarate schools. The sample was randomly distributed into two groups: an experimental group which consists of (32) students, who were taught by the case study strategy, and the controlled group consists of (31) students, who were taught by the traditional method. The two groups studied for about two months during the second semester of the academic year 2014/2015, To achieve the objectives of the study two tools were prepared: One was the achievement test, which was verified by introducing it to a group of experts to judge, the coefficient of reliability was checked through alpha Cronbach which was (0.84), The second tool was the measure of attitudes towards environmental issues, which was also verified by introducing it to a group of experts to judge, the coefficient of reliability was checked through alpha Cronbach which was (0.82).
The results of the study indicated there were statistically significant differences at (a =0,05) between the average scores of students of the experimental group and the control group: achievement test and attitude towards environmental issues in favor of the experimental group students.
Based on the findings of the study, it is recommended to hold training courses and workshops for science teachers and educational supervisors, to introduce them to the importance of the case study and educational advantages and how they are applied in science class strategy. The study also recommended to provide planners and curriculum developers the results of research that proved the effectiveness of the case study strategy for the development of curriculum and teaching methods based on those results.
