English abstract
This study aimed to investigate the impact of using concept cartoons on academic achievement and development of visual thinking skills among 5th grade basic education female students. The study sample consisted of (60) female students of 5th grade from Al-Yarmouk School for Basic Education (5 9) in North Al-Batinah Governorate. The sample was divided into two groups: experimental group (N=30) were taught by concept cartoons and control group (N=30) were taught by the conventional method of teaching. The study lasted for (6) weeks in the second semester of the academic year 2016/2017. To achieve the study's aim, three research instruments were designed: teacher guide in Concept Cartoons for experimental group, academic achievement test and visual thinking skills test. The reliability of the academic achievement test was (0.80), whereas the reliability of visual thinking skills test was (0.75).
The results of the study showed that there were statically significant differences at (0.05) between the means of two study groups in academic achievement test in favor to the experimental groups. In addition, the results showed significant differences at (0.05) between the means of two study groups in visual thinking skills test favor to the experimental groups. The study recommends the school curriculum included on the list of activities based on concept cartoons, because of their importance in the application of knowledge and information in life situations. It also recommends conducting similar studies of Concept Cartoons on different classes.
