English abstract
The study aimed at investigate the effectiveness of using a computerized package to develop the geomorphological concepts in the social studies and visual thinking skills of the 10th grade female students in Oman. The study sample consisted of 57 female students from the 10thgrade at basic education. They were divided into two groups: experimental design consisted of (29) students and control group of (28) students.
The study aimed to measure the effectiveness of the package answer questions, and to verify the hypotheses stated by researcher who prepared the study tools that consisted of: test highlighted the geomorphological concepts, and the test that measured the visual thinking skills. Each of both measures had thirty multiple-choice-questions in which were verified and validated by twenty-two arbitrators. Moreover, the study tools were authenticated by using Cronbach's alpha coefficient, as the value of persistence for the above mention tests were (0.79) and (0.72). respectively. The calculated results indicated the study designs were valid for the purposes and the aim of the study.
The results showed that there were significant differences at the level (0, 05) between the means of the experimental group and the mean of the control group in measuring both geomorphological concepts and the measured visual thinking skills.
The study recommended the need to hold and establish training courses for teachers. Those courses will help to train them on how to design interactive teaching package with high level of quality in all subjects and materials related to social studies subject. Furthermore, the courses will develop the concepts and the skills of visual thinking. And encourage social studies teachers to use the interactive multimedia-rich interactive computer in the teaching of social studies because of their effectiveness in the development of achievement of students.
