English abstract
Background: Evidence from industrialized/developed countries showed that colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence rates have significantly dropped due to primary prevention strategies especially early screening and addressing modifiable lifestyle risk factors such as dietary intake. In Arab countries including Oman; however, the CRC had been reported to have increased. Despite the concerted effort in the primary prevention and widespread use of colonoscopy, to our knowledge, there have been no reports of the prevalence rate of CRC among colonoscopy-recipients from Oman. In addition, there is a dearth of studies that have explored modifiable risk factors among attendees seeking consultation for CRC. Furthermore, very few reports have been published in Oman on the role of nutritional and dietary factors on CRC.
