English abstract
This study aims to investigate the inclusion extent of the scientific literacy standards in Omani Post Basic Education science textbooks.
The study sample consist of all science textbooks (8 textbooks) for grades eleventh and twelve in the academic year 2009/2010.
A content analysis tool was developed after reviewing the literature . The tool validity was tackled by a panel of experts whereas the reliability was calculated using the reliability coefficient giving the . value (91.89%).
The study results reveal the following:
-Variation of inclusion of science literacy standards according to the class level and the subject.
- Inclusion percentages of science literacy standard focus in the domain (scientific knowledge) with a percentage of (79.78%) and less focus on the domain of (science is a way of thinking) with a percentage of (2.45%).
Accordingly, the study recommended necessity of including aspects of scientific literacy in Post:Basic Education science textbooks such as: science as a way of thinking, science as a way of investigating, the relationship between science, technology, society and environment, and the fair distribution of scientific literacy standards in the textbooks.
