English abstract
The objective of the study was to investigate the difficulties faced by Omani postbasic stage social studies teachers in social studies teaching from their perceptions and identify the effect of gender, educational experience and technology employment training courses in social studies teaching at Sultanate of Oman in teachers' perceptions. To achieve the objectives of the study, a descriptive design was used based on the use of (40) items questionnaire distributing on (3) domains: Technology and internet availability for social studies teachers, skill level in using technological programs from teachers' perceptions and difficulties faced in technology employment in teaching social studies at Oman as this domain included (2) subdomains: internal and external difficulties relating to technology employment. After both validity and reliability were obtained for the questionnaire, it was
administrated to a sample totaling (309) Omani male and female social studies ..teachers from Muscat, Southern Batina and Al Dhakheleya Goverments.
Results of the study showed that difficulties relating to technology employment in social studies teaching from teachers' perceptions were moderate (M=3.53). There were no statistically significant differences at the significance level (a=0.05) due to gender and number of technological training courses in all study domains. There were statistically significant differences at the significance level (a=0.05) due to teaching experience, in favor of (6-10 years) of teaching experience. It was recommended that there is a need to study teachers' technological training needs to contribute in the development of the educational field. There is also a need for organizing special technological training courses for social studies teachers in various technological programs, particularly modern ones. There is also a need for more future reliance on technology in teachers' preparation programs and that they must contain clearer objectives. Finally, software developers are to be encouraged to issue Arabic versions.
