English abstract
The study aimed at investigating the attitudes of teachers and parents
of students with learning Disabilities (LDs) in the governorate of Muscat
towards using WhatsApp to follow-up school homework. The sample of the
study comprised of 82 female teachers of students with LDs and 117 parents.
While the sample of the interview consisted of 8 female teachers and 12
female parents of students with LDs. The quantitative results indicated that
there were positive attitudes towards the use of WhatsApp to follow-up
school homework in favor of parents while it was negative from the teachers'
point of view. Results also indicated that there were obstacles that limited
the use of WhatsApp to follow-up school homework in favor of teachers.
The results of the qualitative interview indicated the existence of positive
attitudes ranging between 80-82% among teachers and parents towards the
positives of WhatsApp in following up on school homework, while their
negative attitudes varied. The ratio between teachers and parents was 39%
and 56%, respectively. The results of the interview also indicated that 37%
of parents faced obstacles in using WhatsApp compared to the 29% of female
teachers. The study recommended that holding training workshops for
teachers and parents to reduce the negative and obstacles of using WhatsApp
to follow-up school homework duties for students with LDs.
