This study aimed to determine the level of habits of mind and teaching practices
of the female second cycle science teachers in Al-Batina North Governorate, along with
the relationship between the two variables.
The study sample consisted of (152) female science teachers from second cycle
basic education schools in the academic year 2019/2020.
To answer the study questions, two instruments have been designed:
A habits of mind scale that consisted of (44) statements divided into (7)
categories: (Remaining Open to Continuous Learning, Thinking about
Thinking, Figuring Things Out, Communication, Creating, Imagining and
Innovating, Taking Responsible Risks and Persisting).
An observation checklist which consisted of (31) statements divided into
(5) categories: (Planning for Instruction, Instructional Strategies, Content
Knowledge, Learning Environment Management and Assessment)
The validity of both instruments was checked through a panel of experts,
whereas the scale's reliability was checked using (Chronbach's Alpha) and it was
equal to (0.95). The reliability of the observation checklist was obtained by
(Kindall Tou) and it appeared to be (0.80).
The study revealed that the female science teachers in the second cycle
schools have a very high level of habits of mind and a high level of teaching
practices, and that the relationship between those two variables was strong and
positive. According to the results, the study recommended that it is necessary to
teach habits of mind explicitly in teacher preparation programs as well as training
in service teachers.
