English abstract
This study endeavors to achieve two main goals: to explore, analyze and
interpret the features of Oman public issues as shown in the
Influencers'accounts on twitter who discussed Omani public issues during 2019
and the second goal is to to explore, analyze and interpret the features of the
influncers who stand behind these accounts . The study used the survey
approach and it relies on content analysis during the period 01st June 2019 to
31st October 2019 for a total of 4063 tweets from the accounts of 10 influencers
whose discussions of the public issues represented 20% of their total tweets
during the subject period. The study conducted on confidential interviews with
study samples among influencers whose accounts were analyzed.
The study concluded that the economic issues were in the forefront of the public
issues that were discussed in the influencers' accounts and they represented
35.8% of the total percentage of tweets covering public issues. Job seekers and
unemployment were on the top among the economic issues discussed. The study
revealed that one of the most significant goals in discussing public issues
according to what the tweets demonstrate is the criticism for levelled against
certain institutions or individuals and this goal is featured by 61.8%. The study
highlighted that the negative attitude dominated the influencers' tweets on
public issues by 53.7% while the government featured as the most targeted
category in relevant public tweets 32.43%.
