English abstract
The study aims to identify to what degree the principals of basic education
schools at Al Dhakhiliya governorate in the Sultanate of Oman are committed to the
principles of organizational virtuousness and its relationship with teacher's commitment
to work ethics.
The methodology of the study involves the use of descriptive analytic approach in
which the researcher developed a standardized survey for organizational virtuousness of
school principals and work ethics of teachers. The former consists of eighteen
statements distributed over five different categories while the latter consists of twenty nine statements distributed over four different categories.
After ensuring well standardization of the survey, it has been applied to the study
sample which is four hundred and eight (408) teachers working at the basic education
schools at Al Dhakhiliya governorate in the Sultanate of Oman. Means, standard
deviations, T-test and Pearson's test were calculated to answer the research questions.
The study found an overall increase in the practice of organizational virtuousness
concepts by the principals of basic education schools in Al Dhakhiliya governorate in
the Sultanate of Oman from teachers' point of view. Moreover, there was an overall
increase in the commitment of teachers to the code of conduct from their own point of
view.
The study also showed no evidence of statistically significant differences in the
practice of organizational virtuousness by the principals of basic education schools in
Al Dhakhiliya governorate in the Sultanate of Oman in qualification and experience
variables. However, there was a statistically significant increase in the practice of
organizational virtuousness principles with the female participants in integrity,
optimism and sympathy subsets.
The teachers' survey shows no statistically significant difference in the
commitment of teachers to the code of conduct from qualification, experience and job
title variables. Gender variable shows statistically significant increase in the
commitment to the code of conduct with the female participants in all survey sections.
Moreover, the study revealed a statistically significant positive relationship
between the organizational virtuousness measures and the degree of the teachers'
commitment to the code of conduct in basic education schools in Al Dhakhiliya
governorate in the Sultanate of Oman.
In view of the study results, a set of recommendation were proposed. The most
prominent of which are: encouraging schools' administrations to embrace
organizational virtuousness concepts because of its positive relationship with teachers'
commitment to code of conduct. Also, developing and improving the skills of schools'
principals to align with latest advances of organizational virtuousness practices by
providing relevant training and workshops as well as different kinds of incentives.
Moreover, increasing the awareness of organizational virtuousness practices in the basic
education schools in the Sultanate of Oman with special emphasis on male schools to
achieve consolidation of organizational virtuousness principles with all school workers.
