English abstract
This study seeks to research the historical course of the evolution of the ruling system in Oman, between (1034-1378 AH / 1624-1959 AD), during which it was transformed from a system of governance based on Shura and selection, to a system of dynastic and hereditary rule.
In order to understand the course of these transformations, the study has discussed a central question, which is: how the ruling system has been transformed from what the study describes as " election of Imamate" to the stage of "succession of Imamate "then to the stage of "hereditary sultanate", and what are the conditions and factors that contributed to this transition?
This has been conducted through analysing the developments and events that Oman had witnessed during the time frame of this study.
To analyse those events and developments, the researcher has employed the descriptive analytical method, as well as analysed Omani and non-Omani documents, manuscripts, and various sources.
