English abstract
This study was aimed to examine the effectiveness of a guidance and collective program which was intended for practicing social skills with post basic education male student in the Sultanate of Oman.
The study subjected (30) male students of Class Eleven and Class Twelve in one of the public schools in the north eastern (Sharqiy North) region. These participants have achieved the lowest scores in the social skills scale. Participants were randomly divided into two groups; one is considered as experimental group whereas the other one is controlled group. The participants in experimental group were exposed to the counseling and collective program consisting of (10) sessions over a month and two weeks, while the participants in the controlled group have not been exposed to any programs. Moreover, the researcher considered the guidance program as independent variable, on the other hand the participants' performance was considered as a constant variable. Based on Mann-Whitney U Test for individual variances among the averages, the results pointed out that there were statistically indicative variances after program amongst the averages of the experimental and controlled group after implementation in favor of the experimental group.
The results also indicated that there were statistically indicative differences in the follow-up examination of the social skills among the averages of the experimental and controlled groups. Thus, the study concluded that the counseling program for training of social skills has effectiveness in developing the social skills for post basic education male learners in the sultanate of Oman. Therefore, in the light of this result, the researcher came out of various recommendations and suggestions.
