English abstract
This study aimed at establishing Group Counseling Program based on The Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), and then at examining its effectiveness in reducing the Neurotic Depression on a sample of adolescents in the Sultanate of Oman.
The sample was chosen through the application of (BDI-II) in its revised form (to suite the Omani culture). The sample consisted of (24) male adolescents students from (10th and 11th) Grade aging between (15-17) years, representing the highest scores on (BDI-II) scale, selected from Bilal Bin Rabah Basic School (5-12). The sample was taken from a population of (246) adolescent students of the same school. The group was randomly separated into Experimental group (12) adolescent students and Control group (12) adolescent students. The experimental group was subject to Group Counseling Program in based on (REBT) while the Control group was not subject to any programs. The program lasted for two months (two weekly sessions).
In order to test the study hypothesis, was used to calculate the mean and standard deviation of the degree of depression on the two group (experimental and control) both on the Post and follow-up measures. The (Mann-Whitney U Test) was used to test the statistical significance of the differences between scores of depression on the two groups in the post and follow up measure. The results showed difference of statistical significance between the
Control and Experimental group. The difference was in favor of the experimental group as it shows reduction in the level of depression compared to the controlled group on both the post and follow-up test. This could be attributed to the (REBT) program used with the experimental group.
