English abstract
The purpose of this study was to structure a group counseling program to extend the academic self-concept of students with learning disability in cycle two in Sharqiya North Region in the Sultanate of Oman. Subjects Study sample Consist of 20 female students (age 10-12) from grade five and six from Seih Al-Afia basic education School (5-10). All participants had learning disability, they control and were divided randomly into two equal groups: experimental.
The experimental group subjected to a group counseling program for developing the academic self-concept based on Person- centered counseling theory (Carl Rogers). Whereas, the control group didn't go through any treatment. The counseling program
contained 16 counseling sessions, two sessions per week. Pre and post measurements were applied. Both groups were followed up by using academic self-concept model which was formed for the intents of this study. Results of( Mann-Whitney U Test) showed a difference of statistical significance between the Control and Experimental groups.
The difference was in favor of the experimental group on both Post and Follow-up tests. Students in the experimental group have higher
academic self-concept - in the posterior measure and in the follow up- than the control group. This demonstrates the efficacy of the group counseling program implemented in this study.
