English abstract
This study mainly evaluated writing skill in the fourth grade textbook English for Me.
In particular, it investigated fourth grade teachers' perceptions of different aspects of writing
activities, namely, physical characteristics and design, topics and themes, language content,
characteristics of writing activities, and learning outcomes. It also focused on the extent to
which the textbooks address the writing skill learning outcomes.
To this end, the following two questions were investigated:
1. What are fourth grade teachers' perceptions of the writing skill
components of fourth grade textbooks?
2. To what extent do grade four English for Me textbooks address the
writing skill learning outcomes?
A questionnaire was used to investigate fourth grade teachers' perceptions of writing
skill in the textbooks. Additionally, a checklist for content analysis was used to investigate
the extent to which textbooks address the writing skill learning outcomes stated in the
Framework of the Omani Curriculum Standards. The findings were presented using
descriptive statistics. The study findings indicated that the teachers were moderately in
agreement regarding the writing skill components of the textbooks. The findings also
reported that the textbooks adequately addressed learning outcomes of writing skill. The
researcher provided recommendations based on these findings.
