English abstract
The study aimed to identify the role of emotional intelligence in academic achievement in the
Arabic language among eleventh-grade students in post-basic schools in the Sultanate of
Oman. The study also investigated any possible statistically significant differences in the
role of emotional intelligence on academic achievement due to the gender variable. A
descriptive research approach was implemented to achieve the objectives of the study. The
study targeted eleventh-grade students in the North Al Batinah Governorate (N = 8636);
however, a sample size of 337 students was randomly selected. The results of the study
showed that the role of emotional intelligence in the academic achievement of eleventh-grade
students in the Sultanate of Oman came to a high degree, with an average score of 3.81. The
results also indicated that there were statistically significant differences at the significance
level of 0.05≥α in favour of the female students. In light of these results, the study
recommended the development of emotional intelligence skills among students and teachers
to improve the teaching process and develop its outputs.
