English abstract
Tourist education is a relatively recent phenomenon in Saudi universities compared with others programs, and one of thث pillars that drive progress and growth in the tourism sector and to achieve the objectives of tourist development. The aims of this study are to track academic tourism specialties in Saudi universities, and to identify its contributions in promoting the tourist development in Saudi Arabia, experience of King Saud University as a model, from the point of view of faculty members, and to know of the differences in their views, according to some variables. The study population consisted of all faculty members in the College of Tourism and Archaeology at the King Saud University during the second semester of the academic year 2013-2014, totaling (60) members. The study found that the number of Saudi universities which are teaching tourist specialties only six government universities out of twenty-four University, and one private university of the nine universities. Also the study demonstrated contributes King Saud University in promoting the tourist development in Saudi Arabia. and based on the study results made a number of recommendations to improve the role of universities in promoting the tourist development.
