English abstract
The study aimed to identify the extent to which educational and artistic standards are
taken into account in choosing pictures and illustrations in the science curricula for the first
cycle of basic education in the Sultanate of Oman. The current study followed the descriptive
and analytical approach, and the sample of the study consisted of the science curricula in the
first cycle of basic education (first edition YY.), for the student's book. The study used the
content analysis card, after verifying its validity and reliability.
The results of the study showed that the educational standards for pictures and
illustrations included in the science curricula for the first cycle received varying percentages,
ranging between (100% - 62.5). This indicates the availability of educational standards for
pictures and illustrations in the science curricula for the first cycle, and that the technical
standards for pictures The illustrations included in the science curricula for the first cycle
received varying percentages, ranging from (100% -37.5). It is noted that the technical
standards for pictures and illustrations are available at a rate of (76.6%), which is a high
percentage that reveals the availability of technical standards for pictures and illustrations in
the form Required, There are no statistically significant differences at the level of
significance (a = 0.05) in the researcher's estimates regarding the extent to which educational
and artistic standards are taken into account in choosing pictures and illustrations in the
science curricula for the first cycle due to the academic grade variable in all standards. The
researcher recommended a number of recommendations, the most prominent of which is
better attention with the availability of technical standards for pictures and illustrations in
science books, the first cycle, in terms of their simplicity, clarity of their contents,
compositions, and artistic direction, and the focus when designing and artistic treatment of
pictures and illustrations is on highlighting the main ideas and the educational message
to be conveyed to the student.
