English abstract
This study aimed at pinpointing the efficacy of using a learning method based on context in
enhancing the academic achievement and the science and engineering practices in the science course
among eighth grade students. The research has adopted the quasi-experiments method, where the
sample has consisted of 52 subjects from the eighth grade from a school in Muscat governorate split
into two groups. They were put into two groups, an experimental one consisting of 27 students, and
a control group of 25 students. It was carried out over a period of four weeks in the second semester
from the academic year 2022/2023. In order to achieve the goals of this study, an achievement test
was given, for which the reliability was 0.83. Also, an observation checklist was constructed to
observe the science and engineering practices, and its reliability coefficient was 0,85. A teacher’s
manual was also prepared, validity for these three tools and materials has been verified through a
panel of juries.
Study results revealed a statistically significant difference at α ≤ 0.05 between the average
of the grades of the two groups in post application for the achievement test. They also pointed toward
a statistically significant difference at α ≤ 0.05 between the mean grades of the two groups in post
application for the observation card for the science and engineering practices in favor of the
experimental group .Consequently, the study recommended conducting pre- and post-service
training sessions on using use learning methods based on context, and enhancing the quality of the science curriculum with more science and engineering practices.
