English abstract
This research builds on a growing body of research on language education and cultural
integration by examining the strategic utilization of artificial intelligence (AI) in the
creation of language learning materials. Previous studies predominantly focus on culturally
responsive pedagogy to offer accounts of language education effectiveness. However, the
integration of AI tools in this context has received significantly less attention to explain its
potential impact on linguistic competence and cultural understanding. To address this gap,
this study conceptualizes the intersection of AI technology and Omani cultural integration
in language education. By drawing on data from a diverse sample of instructional
designers, curriculum developers, and English teachers in Muscat Governorate, Oman, this
research develops an understanding of how AI-driven materials can enhance both linguistic
and cultural aspects of learning. As a result, the study contributes to the development of a
comprehensive framework for AI-enhanced language education that is culturally sensitive
and pedagogically sound and asset of designed materials that can be utilized by educators.
A design-based research approach was employed, guided by Reeves’ Model, along with
universal and local literature to iteratively design and refine instructional interventions
aimed at exploring effective design framework for culturally sensitive English language
learning materials via AI tools to answer the research questions. The proposed design
principles were reviewed and validated. The final framework was formed, which consists
of seven categories: Personalization and Adaptability, Interactivity, Multimodal learning,
Real-world context, Adherence to pedagogical principles, UX/UI design principles, and
feedback and continuous improvement. Further studies are recommended to evaluate the
developed design framework, and the impact of the materials designed on students’
language proficiency
