English abstract
This study aims to identify the relationship between bullying and social
skills and self-assertiveness of students in Cycle (2) schools in the Sultanate
of Oman, and the impact of variables: type, grade, and school site, on the de-
gree of appreciation the sample study show to the relationship between bully-
ing and social skills and self assertiveness. To achieve the above objectives,
the literature on bullying and social skills and self assertiveness has been ana-
lyzed to identify and prepare a questionnaire. The questionnaire consists of
three components they are:- the first component is "bullying" consists of (30)
items. the second coponent is "social skills" consists of (31) items. the third
component is "assertiveness" consists of (29) items. The study sample con-
sisted of (910) students; (455) boys and (455) girls from schools in Sharqiya
South Governorate. The data obtained was analyzed using means, standard
deviations, "T" tests, cheffe test. The result of the study indicates that:
There is a negative relationship between bullying and social skills
and self assertiveness. There is a high level of social skills, an average
level of self assertiveness, and a low level of bullying among the sample
of the study. There are statistically significant differences in the type vari-
able in favor of males in the degree of bullying. In the grade variable in
favor of the tenth grade and in the school site variable in favor of the re-
mote schools. There are individual differences in the variable type in favor
of females in the mastery of social skills and self-assertion. For the
grade variable there are statistically significant differences in favor of the
ninth and eighth grades. On the light of results the researcher suggested
the following actions: The need to design programs to train students on
social skills and self assertiveness in order to reduce the bullying beha-
vior.Further studies could be conducted using different research methods
rather than a questionnaire.
