English abstract
This research aims to reveal the reality of the contribution of the private sector in funding the educational projects and activities that are being implemented in the public schools in the Sultanate of Oman. The study tries to shed a light on this issue from the point of view of the principals of those schools and their strategies in attracting the private sector to support the activities and projects being carried out in their schools. It also highlights the difficulties that might face those principals as well as their suggestions to activate the role of the private sector in sponsoring the educational projects and activities in schools. To achieve the aims of the study, a questionnaire with closed items and open-ended questions was used. It was tested for validity and reliability. The questionnaire was distributed among a sample of (200) school principals who represented 31% of the total population. Data was analyzed using SPSS. The main findings were the follow:
- Offering encouragement gifts for the well-achieved students was the most common way that used by the private sector in supporting public schools in the Sultanate of Oman. Social networks were the most common strategies used by the school principals in obtaining private sector financial support. The low awareness of the private sector social responsibility toward educational institutions was the most difficultly faced by the school principals in obtaining private sector financial support. - Making the private sector participates in school parents councils was the most suggested idea to enhance the role of the private sector in supporting school projects and activities. . The study recommends: - Expanding school principals' authorities to have direct contact with the private sector to obtain fund for the school projects and activities. - Introducing more field projects in curriculum to enable students to know work environment in the private sector and then to work there. Conducting summer programs for grade 11 and 12 students in the private sector.
