English abstract
This study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of career guidance program based on the narrative approach to develop work
values among the fourth grade students in Sohar State. The study sample included 90 male and female students in grade four, in a quasi experimental study the sample was randomly divided into two groups experimental and control. The experimental group consisted of 45 male and female students and the control group consisted of 45 male and female students. The experimental group underwent the career guidance program, while the control group received alternative activities. The researcher has prepared a scale to measure the work values for children, which has good psychometric characteristics for this study, where the
scale consisted of three dimensions: cooperation, responsibility, independence. The stability coefficient index of the work values scale for children was 0.82. The results showed, there were statistically significant differences between the experimental group and the control group on the work values scale for children in the per- experiment implementation in favor of the experimental group. The results also showed statistically significant differences in the per- and post-experimental applications of the experimental group in favor of the post-application. While there were differences among the experimental group in the work values scale for children and gender in cooperation dimension. The result also illustrated that there was no statistically difference between the post- application and the follow up application of in the work values scale for children which indicates the effectiveness of the program. Finally, the study came out with a set of recommendations and suggestions in light of the
previous results.
