English abstract
This thesis entitled Structural and Methods Aspects in Omani Sermons (first three centuries as a model) "A Descriptive Analytical Study highlights the old Omani sermons in the first three centuries after Hegira. The thesis touches upon forty-eight long, medium and short sermons deemed appropriate for the research by the candidate. The application of every provision focused on the important aspects related particularly to the grammatical sense behind the use of each structure or style
.
The thesis includes an introduction, preface, two chapters and a conclusion. In the preface, the candidate mentions the occasion and context in which the speeches of the Omanis were applied and shows the characteristics and themes of these sermons under study. The first chapter explains five structural phenomena applied to Omani sermons: indefinite and definite, deletion, taqdeem and takheer (delay or moving behind), al-hasr or al-qasr (restriction), and al-wasl and al-fasl (connection and separation). The second chapter addresses eight styles in light of the sermons under review: emphasis, swearing, conditional, negation, questioning, exclamation, praise and slander. The conclusion includes a summary the results of the research. The thesis adopted the descriptive and analytical approach and review of the rhetoric text at its structural level.
The following are the main findings of the research:
- Lack of applied linguistic studies of Omani prosaic arts.
- The structural phenomena and methods in the Omani sermons and meanings learned from them came in line with the established opinions of the scholars of grammar and rhetoric in this regard, except as stated in the thesis as for the delicate use of the structure and precise meaning intended from it.
