English abstract
The present study aims at identifying the theoretical fundamentals of school safety management, exploring teachers' viewpoints of school safety management and presenting procedural suggestions to implement school safety management in Oman.
In order to achieve those objectives, the researcher analyzed the theoretical fundamentals related to the topic of the study and developed a questionnaire that consisted of 49 items representing school safety management procedures under five dimensions: policies and plans, students' school safety, teachers' school safety, school buildings safety and school buses safety. The study sample consisted of 880 teachers (males and females) from two educational provinces and four educational areas: Muscat province, Dhofar province, North Batna, South Batna, North Al-Sharqia region and South Al-Sharqia region. The following are the main findings of the study: 1- Subjects' perceptions of the school safety management in the five dimensions ranged between medium and low. The descending order of subjects' judgment of those practices is school buildings safety procedures, school buses safety, students' safety, teachers' safety and policies and plans safety.
2- There was a statistically significant difference in the subjects perceptions of students school safety with regard to gender in favor of males.
3- There was a statistically significant difference in their perceptions of school safety practices in the dimensions of plans and policies, school buses safety, students' school safety and teachers' school safety attributable to educational area in North Al Batna, Dhofar, North Al Sharqia and South Al Sharqia. However, there was no statistically significant difference in subjects' perceptions of school buildings safety due to educational area.
4- There was a statistically significant difference in their perceptions of school buildings safety due to the school building size. The result was positive in schools whose capacity ranged between 500 – 1000 students. However, there was not any statistically significant difference in their perceptions of school safety in other dimensions due to school size.
5- There was no statistically significant difference in their perceptions of school safety management in the five dimensions due to academic year number. A number of recommendations for improving safety school management and some recommendations for future research are made.
