English abstract
The study aimed to find out the impact of Appleton model in the teaching of statistics on the acquisition of statistical concepts and the development of statistical thinking among students of grade ten. The study consisted of 50 students were randomly selected from Saham School 10-12. They were divided into two randomly selected groups. The experimental group consisted of 25 students studied the statistics unit using the Appleton model. A control group consisted of 25 students studied the statistics unit in the usual way.The equality of the two groups in the selection of statistical concepts and the statistical thinking test has been confirmed in advance. The study has taken a period of 4 weeks to be applied the researcher used two tests to achieve the goal of the study. they are the statistical concepts test which consists of 20 items and the statistical thinking test which consists of 12 items. The semantic validity and reliability of the study tools have been extracted in appropriate ways. they were found to be acceptable for the study demands. In a way of answering the questions of the study the researcher has used the accompanying analysis of variance (ANCOVA) which resulted on the following.
There is a difference with statistical significant at a level of (a=0.05) significance between the scores of the experimental group and the control group in the acquisition of statistical concepts among the students of grade 10 for the experimental group attributed to the teaching methods.
There is a difference with statistical significant at a level of (a=0.05) significance in the development of statistical thinking among the students of grade 10 for the experimental group attributed to the teaching methods.
In accordance to the attained results the researcher has given some recommendations It is highly important to use and apply the Appleton model in teaching the statistical concepts, it has a very positive impact on the improvement of the statistical concepts and thinking among grade 10 students.
