English abstract
This study aims to shed light on one of the most important elements of the communication process (Communicator or media practitioners) in the field of Public Relations. As a main player in the communicative participation through delivering news and information for the external and internal environment of the enterprise, and producing media message.
The importance of this study stems from the fact that it is the first of its kind, as far as the researcher knows, to describe the communicative, functional, and training dimensions for communicators in the field of Public Relations in the Ministries in Sultanate of Oman. The study aspires to provide knowledge about the demographic characteristics of communicators, their activities, qualifications, training, communicative and research activities. Moreover, the study will shed lights on the level of job satisfaction, and the main constraints the communicators encounter.
The study depends on the Survey Methodology, and questionnaire as a tool for data collection. In addition, to the un-structured interview to interpreting some of study results. The data has been processed using (SPSS).
The study concluded that there was an obvious increase in the number of males working in the Public Relations compared to the number of females in the same filed. It also revealed the increase of the number of communicators who have obtained University degrees in Public Relations and Mass Communications, Also, the results showed that the activities related to organizing of conferences, seminars, and lectures came at the top of the daily activities accomplished by the communicators in Public Relation. With regard to the communicative patterns used in Public Relations, daily news came first, and E-mail is the most electronic communications patterns used by communicators.
Also the study revealed that appropriate training programs are provided in terms of quantities and varieties. The study also showed lack of using scientific research in the field of Public Relations. In terms of the job satisfaction, the results revealed that the communicators have an average level of satisfaction with salaries and allowances system. Nevertheless, it found a high level of satisfaction with promotion system. Also there was a positive satisfaction toward professional relations, and the nature of the field. At last, the study showed that more than half of the communicators are facing constraints, such as economic, professional, social, administrative, and psychological constraints.
