English abstract
This study aimed at investigating the extent of the consistency of the content of "This is my Homeland" syllabuses at post basic education (grades 11 & 12) with its content criteria. In addition, the study attempts to discover the difficulties that were encountered by the teachers in teaching these syllabuses. To achieve the aims of the study a descriptive approach was used. the researcher prepared a questionnaire consisting of (42) items divided into three domains: the educational objectives with the consistency of the content ; subject matter and its fulfillment of content criteria; and the achievement of the specifications of content criteria. After checking the validity and reliability of the instrument, it was applied to the study sample consisting of (112) social studies teachers (males and females) in public schools in Muscat Governorate. The data showed a medium consistency between the content and the educational objectives of the "This is my Homeland" syllabuses with only (6) out of (14) objectives had a high consistency with the content, whereas (8) objectives had an average consistency. In addition, the study reveals that subject matter has an average achievement of content criteria. Furthermore, the data demonstrate that "The book my homeland" syllabuses meet the specification of content criteria by a high degree. The teachers reported that they encounter some problems in teaching "This is my Homeland" syllabuses including: content, educational aides and activates, teachers and students, and the methods of teaching and assessment listed according the descending degree of difficulties. The researcher stated some recommendations and a set of topics was suggested for further studies.
