English abstract
The present study aims at measuring the effect of using the directed imagination strategy in developing the reading comprehension skills of grade eight students. To achieve this purpose, the researcher prepared aguide on how to develop these skills using the above strategy and areading comprehension test. Both tools were validated by jury members. Reliability was also found to (0.83 ) Using Cronback
alpha. The sample of the study consisted of an experimental group that had 30 students. This group used the directed imagination strategy in their reading classes. The other group was the control group (30) that did their reading lessons in the conventional manner. After the treatment, the reading test was the administered to both groups. Findings of the study revealed that there were statistically significant differences (at.05 level) between the means of both groups in favour of the experimental group. Based on thesefindings, the researcher makes anumber of recommendation. One of these is the importance of using various strategies to develop students reading
comprehension skills such as metacognitive strategies and directed imagination strategies. It is also important to use the latter in other branches of the Arabic classes such as critical.
