English abstract
The purpose of the study was to determine the effects of cooperative learning in mathematics achievement and retention in the sceond preparatory students .
In order to achieve this purpose , lesson plans were designed to teach the different components of the unit on fractional numbers using cooperative learning. In addition an achievement test was writen to be administerd after the teaching of the unit was completed .
The study focusesed on answering the following questions :
1) What are the effects of cooperative learning on the students mathematcs immediate achievement ?
2) What are the effects of cooperative learning on the students mathematcs delayed achievement ?
3) What are the effects of cooperative learning on the students mathematcs amount of knowledge retained ?
A total of 146 students studying in two girls' schools in Ibri was participated in the study. In each school two group were formed : control and experiemental .
The study was carried for 22 lessons to cover the unit . Then , the paricipating students took the achievement test. The same test was administerd again to the students five weeks later.
The study didn't show any statistical significant difference at level 0.05 between the control group and the the experiemental group in terms of their immediate achievement , delayed achievement or the amount of knowledge retained .
