English abstract
This study aimed at detecting the effectiveness of style of parental upbringing on ambition and professional decision-making among 10th grade students in the North Batinah Governorate in Oman. The sample consisted of (383) of mixed gender students chosen by using clustery random way in a correlational descriptive study. Three scales were used; the parenting, vocational ambition, and the Crits scale for decision making. The results showed high level of democratic upbringing style among the sample members. Then comes the compulsory style and then neglect. Results also showed that the sample possesses high levels of vocational ambition and decision making. They showed significant differences at parenting styles in neglect in favor of males and the private sector. They also showed significant differences at vocational ambition and decision-making in favor of females while there were no significant differences in democratic and compulsory styles and vocational ambition and decision making which are related to father's job. The results revealed a positive statistical function correlation between compulsory style and education ambition and accomplishment. They showed that there was no statistical function correlation between compulsory style and vocational decision making, leadership ambition and total vocational ambition. Results also showed that there was no statistical function correlation between democratic style and vocational decision making. They showed a negative statistical function correlation between neglect style and vocational decision making while there was no statistical function correlation between neglect style and accomplishment, leadership and education ambition as well as total vocational ambition. They also showed that there was no statistical function correlation between the three dimensions of ambition (achievement, leadership, and education) and vocational decision making. Results were discussed and the Conclusions and suggestions were addressed consequently.
